They can <strong>work up to 240 hours per quarter <\/strong>without losing the right to child benefit.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><div class=\"wysiwyg\">\n<p>After these 360 days, their right to child benefit stops. If your child was registered as a job-seeking school-leaver, they may then be entitled to unemployment benefits through the union or the <a href=\"https:\/\/hvw-capac.fgov.be\/fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">auxiliary fund for unemployment benefits (CAPAC)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are the conditions for being awarded child benefits after the studies?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><div class=\"wysiwyg\">\n<p>Once your child has registered as a job-seeking school leaver, they are entitled to child benefits for a maximum of 360 days if they:<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><div class=\"wysiwyg\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>are registered with the employment service Actiris<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>are under 25 years old<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>are no longer subject to compulsory education<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>are not voluntarily unemployed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>do not work more than 240 hours per quarter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When does the 360-day period start?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><div class=\"wysiwyg\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On August 1 after a full school or academic year,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The day after the interruption of the studies (or the reduction of the <a href=\"https:\/\/famiris.brussels\/en\/faq\/students-and-school-leavers\/child-benefit-for-students\/\">required number of class hours or credits<\/a>),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The day after the end of the second examination period,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The day after submitting the final thesis,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The day after the end of the apprenticeship contract.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"heading\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What if your child stops studying?<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><div class=\"wysiwyg\">\n<p>Note that if the young person stops studying <strong>in the year of their eighteenth birthday<\/strong>, the 360-day period begins:<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><div class=\"wysiwyg\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The day after their birthday, if the young person turns 18 before June 30 and stops studying before their birthday,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The day after the interruption of the studies, if the young person turns 18 before June 30 and stops studying  after their birthday (and before June 30),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From August 1 if the young person turns 18 after June 30.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><div class=\"wysiwyg\">\n<p>If your child registers late with Actiris, the <strong>entitlement period for child benefits for a job-seeking school-leaver starts from the registration date<\/strong>. The entitlement period ends 360 days after the mandatory registration date. Your child then loses the right to child benefits for the period they were not registered.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What if your child wants to work when in search of employment?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><div class=\"wysiwyg\">\n<p>During the entitlement period for child benefits, the young person retains the child benefits, provided <strong>they do not work more than 240 hours per quarter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Does the young person work more than 240 hours per quarter?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><div class=\"wysiwyg\">\n<p>In that case the <strong>child benefits are suspended for that quarter<\/strong>. The payment of child benefits can be resumed if the entitlement period is still ongoing and the young person either stops working or works no more than 240 hours per quarter.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is there a change in your child\u2019s professional status? <\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><div class=\"wysiwyg\">\n<p><strong>Let us know as soon as possible<\/strong> to avoid any surprises.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What if my child does not register as a job-seeking school-leaver?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><div class=\"wysiwyg\">\n<p>If your child does not register as a job-seeking school leaver, they are entitled to child benefits until:<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><div class=\"wysiwyg\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>end of the month in which they stop attending classes<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>end of the last month in which they have holidays <\/strong>(provided they attended classes until the end of the school year). In secondary or non-higher education, this holiday period lasts until August 31, and in higher education until September 30.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How and where does your child register as a job-seeking school-leaver?<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><div class=\"wysiwyg\">\n<p>If your child lives in Brussels, <strong>they must register with Actiris<\/strong>. This can be done by making an appointment at one of their offices or via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.actiris.brussels\/fr\/citoyens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Actiris website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"paragraph\"><div class=\"wysiwyg\">\n<p>At the time of registration, <strong>a professional integration period of 12 months (360 days) <\/strong>begins.
