Since January 1, 2020, child benefits are managed differently. They are no longer paid by the federal government but directly by the Brussels government for children living in the Brussels-Capital Region<\/strong>. Famiris, the public child benefit agency, is responsible for paying Brussels child benefits.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

The rules and amounts of Brussels child benefits have been adjusted to better meet the needs of families in Brussels. Most families now receive a higher benefit than before<\/strong>. For some families, the amount has remained the same.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Children born before 2020<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n

Children who were already receiving child benefits under the old system automatically receive the amounts from the Brussels system if they are higher<\/strong>. If the amount you previously received was higher, you will continue to receive it<\/strong> as long as your family situation does not change. Your case manager at Famiris closely monitors your situation. If you become entitled to a higher amount in the future, we will adjust it immediately.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Children born after the introduction of the Brussels system automatically receive the amounts provided by this new system<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n
