What happens to the child benefits if my child is placed in an institution?

Payment of child benefits

If a child is placed in an institution, two-thirds of the child benefits go directly to the institution to cover the upbringing costs. The remaining one-third is usually given to the person who cared for the child before the placement, provided that this person continues to care for the child during the placement.

Court decision

The court can also decide that the remaining one-third is deposited into a savings account in the child’s name and blocked until the child reaches adulthood.
