Are there additional benefits or allowances for families with a child with a disability?
A child with a disability or condition often requires specific care and support. Therefore, the government provides (financial) assistance to support families with a child with a recognized disability.
The Brussels increased child benefits for children with a disability or condition are one such allowance. There are also other forms of support, such as a parking card, tax benefits, or social tariffs for certain utilities. You can find an overview on the website of the Belgian government service DG Persons with Disabilities.
Additionally, the Flemish government provides a support allowance (ondersteuningstoeslag) for children with a recognized disability who score 12 points or more on the medical-social scale and are under 21 years old. Children living in Brussels who receive a supplement for children with a disability as part of their child benefits may also be entitled to this.
