How do I apply for a supplement for my child with an illness or condition?
Does your child have an illness, condition or disability? If so, you may be entitled to increased child benefits.
You need to apply for this supplement through your child benefits fund. This can also be done retroactively. Contact your file manager at Famiris. He or she will forward your application to the Center for Evaluation of Autonomy and Disability (CEAH). This center is responsible for evaluating your child’s condition or disability in Brussels.
You will receive a letter from the CEAH with information about the evaluation and an application form that you need to return completed. On the form, you will need to indicate the name of the doctor who treats your child (the general practitioner or a specialist). You will also need to specify whether you agree that the CEAH contacts this doctor directly via eHealth to obtain the medical information about your child. The eHealth platform is a secure digital system for exchanging health data.
- If you agree, the CEAH will contact the doctor via eHealth to complete a medical form.
- If you do not agree, you will receive a medical form by mail that the doctor must complete.
Based on the information you provide, the CEAH will:
- Evaluate your child’s illness, disability or condition,
- Or possibly invite your child for a medical examination.
The CEAH doctor will communicate their decision to the family and the child benefits fund. If you are entitled to the supplement, it will be paid monthly along with your child benefits. You will receive the supplement starting from the month following the date mentioned in the CEAH’s decision.
