When is the school allowance paid?

What is the school allowance or annual age supplement?

The annual age supplement, better known as the school allowance, is an allowance that all children with Brussels child benefits receive once a year in August.

With the annual age supplement, Famiris wants to give you and your family a boost at the start of the new school year. That is why the supplement is also called the school allowance. But children who do not go to school yet are also entitled to the supplement.

Do you need to apply for the school allowance?

No. You do not need to do anything to receive the supplement. The school allowance is automatically paid every year in August, together with the July child benefit. The person who receives the child benefit also receives the school allowance.

How much is the school allowance in Brussels?

All amounts mentioned are effective following the indexation of 01/05/2024 (for more information on indexation system).

The school allowance varies according to the age category of the child. Between 18 and 24 years old, the amount also varies depending on whether your child is in higher education or not.

To determine the amount, we look at the age your child is on July 1 of the relevant year. Listed below are the various amounts of the school allowance:

0-2 years old €24,38
3 – 5 years old €24,38
6 – 11 years old €36,57
12 – 17 years old €60,95
18 – 24 years old (no higher education) €60,95
18 – 24 years old (higher education) €97,52
