What does child benefit indexation mean?

Indexation consists in adjusting social benefits to the cost of living.

This means that all Brussels child benefit rates increase by 2%:

  • maternity grant and adoption grant;
  • basic child benefit rates;
  • supplements: supplement for orphans, social supplement, supplement for children with a disability;
  • school bonus;
  • income limits for entitlement to a social supplement.

What do you have to do when there is an indexation?

Nothing! Famiris automatically increases your child benefit rate.

When do indexations occur?

The last Brussels child benefit indexation took place on 01/05/2024.

The rates will increase again when the next pivotal index is reached. This is a figure calculated by the authorities which takes into account the value of a certain number of products and services consumed by households.

This system ensures that child benefit and other social benefits increase when the cost of living has risen to a certain extent.

More information on future indexations is available on the website of the Federal Planning Bureau.
