What does the 2020 reform of child benefits mean for me?
A Brussels child benefit system
Since January 1, 2020, child benefits are managed differently. They are no longer paid by the federal government but directly by the Brussels government for children living in the Brussels-Capital Region. Famiris, the public child benefit agency, is responsible for paying Brussels child benefits.
Adjusted amounts
The rules and amounts of Brussels child benefits have been adjusted to better meet the needs of families in Brussels. Most families now receive a higher benefit than before. For some families, the amount has remained the same.

Children born before 2020
Children who were already receiving child benefits under the old system automatically receive the amounts from the Brussels system if they are higher. If the amount you previously received was higher, you will continue to receive it as long as your family situation does not change. Your case manager at Famiris closely monitors your situation. If you become entitled to a higher amount in the future, we will adjust it immediately.
Children born from 2020 onwards
Children born after the introduction of the Brussels system automatically receive the amounts provided by this new system.
