Brussels child benefit rates

Below, you can find an overview of the applicable Brussels child benefit rates (these rates have been indexed according to the index in force since 01/05/2024).

Maternity allowance (or maternity grant)

For the birth of your first child, you are entitled to a maternity allowance of €1.340,90. For each subsequent birth, you will receive €609,50.

In the event of a multiple birth, the maternity grant is always €609,50 per child.

Adoption grant

For a first adoption, you will receive €1.340,90. For each subsequent adoption, you are entitled to €609,50.

Basic child benefit

All children who are entitled to Brussels child benefit, receive a basic rate based on their date of birth and age. This right is unconditional until 31 August of the year in which they turn 18. Children aged between 18 and 25 years have to fulfill certain conditions.

Exception: for all children who are not entitled to a social supplement, a supplement for orphans or a supplement for children with a disability, the basic rate does not increase with age if the household income amounts to €38.625,31 or more.

Social supplement

On top of the basic rate, you may be entitled to a social supplement if your household income is below a certain limit.

From 1 November 2023, the household’s cadastral income will also be taken into account to determine your entitlement to the social supplement.

If your cadastral income exceeds €2.000,00 (not index-linked), you are no longer entitled to the social supplement. If it is less than or equal to €2.000,00, we examine the following ceilings:

Child benefit for children born before 2020

Since 2020, Brussels has its own child benefit system.

Did you have children before 2020? In that case, there are two possibilities:

  • You receive the Brussels child benefit rate if it is higher than the child benefit you received before 2020.
  • If the rate of the old federal child benefit system was higher, we continue to pay that rate.

Famiris makes sure it always pays the highest rate. You do not need to do anything.
