How do I claim the adoption grant?

Congratulations with your son or daughter! Did you know that you are entitled to an adoption grant when adopting a child?

In order to receive the adoption grant two conditions must be met:

• You applied for the adoption before the competent court or signed a deed of adoption. These documents indicate that your family wishes to adopt a child.
• The child has to be part of your family.

For a first adoption the grant amounts to  €1.367,74 per child. For a second adoption you are entitled to €621,70.

All amounts mentioned are effective following the indexation of 01/02/2025 (for more information on indexation system)

The adoption grant is paid to the mother or the person raising the child. If both parents are the same sex, the oldest one receives the grant.
