What is child benefit?
Child benefit are monthly payments from the Brussels government to help with the upbringing and care of your children. This money helps cover costs such as school supplies, clothing, and hobbies. Famiris is responsible for paying these child benefit.
Who is eligible for child benefit?
Children living in the Brussels-Capital Region are eligible for Brussels child benefit. This right is granted until August 31 of the year the child turns 18. Between 18 and 25 years old, there are conditions.
How to apply for child benefit?
Usually, you do not need to apply for child benefit. Did you already apply for the Brussels birth grant with Famiris? Then, after your child is born, we will automatically pay the monthly child benefit. You are entitled to child allowance from the month following your child’s birth.

To whom do we pay the child benefit?
We pay the child benefit to the mother. If the child is raised by someone else, that person receives the child benefit (e.g., grandparent, foster parent). Learn more about who receives the child benefits.
When do we pay the child benefit?
At Famiris, we find it important that you always receive your money quickly. Therefore, we pay the child benefit promptly on the first working day of the following month. For example, the child benefit for June is paid on the first working day of July. This way, you know exactly when you will receive your child benefit.
How much child benefit will you receive?
You receive an amount for each child in your family. The basic amount per child ranges from €174,08 to €211,38. In addition to this basic amount, you may also be entitled to a supplement, for example, if you have a limited income, if you are a single parent or if your child has a disability. Children who have lost a parent are entitled to an orphan’s supplement.
