What are the conditions for receiving Brussels child benefits?
Child benefit are monthly payments from the Brussels government (COCOM) to help with the upbringing and care of your children. This money helps cover costs such as school supplies, clothing, and hobbies. Famiris is the public fund responsible for distributing these payments.
General conditions
- Children living in the Brussels-Capital Region are eligible for Brussels child benefits.
- They must have Belgian nationality or be authorized to reside in Belgium.
The 19 municipalities of the Brussels-Capital Region are Anderlecht, Auderghem, Berchem-Sainte-Agathe, Bruxelles, Etterbeek, Evere, Forest, Ganshoren, Ixelles, Jette, Koekelberg, Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Saint-Gilles, Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, Schaerbeek, Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, Uccle et Watermael-Boitsfort.
Duration of the right
- You are entitled to child benefit from the month following your child’s birth.
- This right is granted until August 31 of the year the child turns 18. For children with a recognized disability or condition, this applies until the month in which the child turns 21.
- Between 18 and 25 years old, additional conditions apply.
Specific conditions for young people aged 18 to 25
If the young person continues their studies or is registered as a job seeker, they can, under certain conditions, continue to receive child benefits.
